Alyssa's Journey

This Spring the staff, trainers and volunteers of Angel Service Dogs are being invigorated in a way we never imagined by the generosity of a child. We were moved to tears when Alyssa contacted us to ask if she could choose Angel Service Dogs and an allergic child for her Mitzvah project.

She stepped outside her comfort zone, came to the Angel Service Dogs’ site and lived the life of an allergic child for one weekend living the stress of reading labels, checking restaurants, monitoring what she touched and wondering if her choices would harm her new friend Riley.* The second day she experienced using an Allergy Alert Dog!

Check back often! Soon you will be able to monitor Alyssa's journey, see the joy of the family she is helping, learn more about life threatening allergies and join her by donating to her project.

Pet World Interview

An Allergy Alert Dog, sometimes called a peanut dog, can be a valuable tool for those with life threatening allergies. Since a dog’s sense of smell far surpasses that of humans, scent detection is a perfect job for a correctly trained dog. Once trained by a Master Trainer, a dog will be able to detect elements of an allergen in any form; raw, cooked, oil, butter, dust etc.

What is taken for granted by most is a luxury for families whose members have anaphylactic allergies. Because their children can even be contact sensitive to common, everyday foods like peanuts and tree nuts, they must be constantly vigilant in protecting their children. Many times they do not participate in group activities like church, school, or even a simple ball game. Because there is no cure for severe food allergies, these families need help to begin a life with more freedom.

Many families would love to have a companion like an Angel Dog to help their child gain freedom. For most, the cost is prohibitive. Angel Service Dogs, Inc. has been formed to coordinate donations to help families--one dog at a time. We will also help distribute literature to help churches, schools and civic groups accommodate those suffering with life threatening allergies.
